AWS Outage

What is AWS?

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is one of the biggest forces on the web, controlling over 40% of the programs running in its cloud. When AWS outages occur, popular companies such as Netflix, Uber, Pinterest, and more are affected. Normally AWS outages last an hour or so, but yesterday a major outage wiped out services for nearly 12 hours.

How does an AWS outage affect ESR riders?

There is a chance that on Wednesday, November 25 between the hours of 4 pm and 4 am, your ESR data was not uploaded to the server. Specifically, the following ESR services were impacted:

  • Ride uploads
  • Image uploads
  • Posting on the ESR community website with embedded images

This means that if you recorded a ride, or created a post with an image, there is a chance it did not make it to the server :-(

What can ESR riders do?

All rides that were affected by the AWS outage should have automatically uploaded after the issue was fixed early this morning.  If your content created using Android/iOS hasn't been published, check your upload queue and try manually uploading your rides

If you attempted to publish a post with an image in it, you might be required to re-create the post and upload it again.
